Geliebte Luise"Ich bin nicht zur Königin geboren, das glaube mir", bat Prinzessin Luise von Mecklenburg-Strelitz ihren Bruder Georg, doch diese Selbsteinschätzung war offensichtlich falsch. Denn keine deutsche Fürstin wurde so gefeiert und verehrt wie eben diese Luise, welche nicht nur die Gattin des preußischen Königs Friedrich Wilhelm III., sondern auch die Mutter des ersten deutschen Kaisers war. Doch das Bestreben der im Alter von nur 34 Jahren gestorbenen Königin ging über die Erfüllung eines familiären Pflichtprogramms weit hinaus.Welchen genauen Anteil sie an den preußischen Reformen hatte, lässt sich zwar nicht mehr feststellen, dass sie immer wieder zwischen dem konservativen Ehemann und den innovationsfreudigen Reformkräften vermittelte, gilt dagegen als sicher. Ihr Interesse für Kunst und Kultur trug nach Einschätzung des Schriftstellers Günter de Bruyn außerdem dazu bei, "die Verbundenheit zwischen dem preußischen Geist und dem von Weimar" zu verstärken. Die immer wieder geäußerte Vermutung, die Nachwelt könne sich von Königin Luise kein optisches Bild machen, weil ihre Darstellung zu sehr variiert, wird auf den gut 200 Seiten eindrucksvoll bestätigt. Ohne übertriebene Schönfärberei entwerfen Wort und Bild eine preußische Biografie, die mit den einschlägig bekannten, aber oft negativen gewendeten "Tugenden" erfreulich wenig gemein hat.Dass ihre Bemühungen um ein friedliches Zusammenleben in Europa nicht immer Erfolg hatten, ist bekannt. Trotzdem dürfte es Leserinnen und Lesern des 21. Jahrhunderts ebenso schwer fallen, sich dem Charisma dieser außergewöhnlichen Frau zu entziehen, wie Kaiser Napoleon, der noch auf St. Helena von unruhigen Erinnerungen verfolgt wurde.

Sie war Preußens "Königin der Herzen" : Luise von Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Als Ehefrau des zaudernden und farblosen Friedrich Wilhelm III. eroberte sie mit ihrer jugendlichen Unbekümmertheit und herzlichen Art die Herzen ihrer Untertanen.Bis heute hält die Luisenverehrung an, wobei die Person Luise immer etwas Geheimnisvolles umgibt, was nicht zuletzt an der vielfältigen und vor allem höchst unterschiedlichen künstlerischen Darstellung der Königin liegt. Unzählige Maler und Bildhauer haben sich ihr jeweiliges Bild von Luise gemacht.Anhand etlicher Quellen (z.B. Briefe und Bilder) zeichnet Johannes Thiele ein kenntnisreiches Bild des Lebens der früh verstorbenen Monarchin. Ihre unbeschwerte Kindheit,ihre Liebe zu dem spröden Ehemann und Luises Rolle während der französischen Besetzung Preußens zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts, ihre Flucht nach Königsberg, der frühe Tod und natürlich ihre legendäre Begegnung mit Napoleon werden in diesem aufwendig und liebevoll gestalteten Band ausführlich dargestellt.Nicht unerwähnt bleiben sollte das informative Vorwort des großartigen Günter de Bruyn.

Von diesem Buch kann man nur abraten. Es ist offensichtlich ohne Kontrolle eines Lektorats zusammengehauen, das die schlimmsten Fehler hätte verhindern müssen, z.B. S. 10 ist nicht Königin Luise, sondern das Brautbild der 1808 geborenen gleichnamigen Tochter abgebildet S. 35 ist die Schwester Friedrike dargestellt, S. 43 das bekannte Bild von E. Vigée-Lebrun seitenverkehrt, und der größte Hammer zum Schluß: die Dame von S. 25 ist nicht einmal Luises Schwester Chrlotte, sondern Philippine Charlotte, Schwester Friedrichs d. Großen in einem Porträt von 1744. Ansonsten sind die Bilder nicht den behandelten Zeitabschnitten zugeordnet, sondern planlos, sodaß G. Richters Bild von 1878 (!!) bei der Verlobung auftaucht und das letzte Lebensjahr mit einem Bild aus den 1790ger Jahren illustriert ist. Wo sich die wiedergegebenen Werke heute befinden wird nicht mitgeteilt, am Schluß des Buchs gibt es eine Liste der Rechteinhaber, aber das wars auch schon. Offensichtlich enstand die Idee zu diesem total verunglückten Buch als Ergänzung zu er wirklich guten und sehr lesenswerten Biographie des gleichen Verfassers. Fazit: Wer Bilder der Königin Luise haben will, suche im Internet nach der Hauptquelle dieses Buchs, nämlich Georg Schuster: Königin Luise. Historische Bilddokumente. Berlin 1933 (trotz des "bräunlichen" Vorworts)und lasse von diesem Buch die Finger, an dem das einzig Positive die guteQualität der Farbabbildungen ist.

Toby und Reuben sind zwei interessante Figuren und es hat Spaß gemacht ihre Beziehung und ihre Entwicklung wachsen zu sehen. Das Buch ist unterhaltsam, liebevoll, spannend und mitreißend.

Arctic Wild is very much an Annabeth Albert book, with which I mean it's the exact same formula I've seen from this author before. If Arctic Sun and Rough Terrain had a book child, this would be it, minus the military character background.Which isn't to say Arctic Wild was boring - I enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed those other two books - it was just predictable in how the story would be structured and when key events would occur.Content warnings include: plane crash, stuck in wilderness, fear of flying, heavy injuries from the crash (multiple fractures, character spends rest of the book in casts and a wheelchair,) one character is a workaholic, antagonistic parent; mentions of more heavy injury leading to disability, death of parents and brief custody battle.I enjoyed reading this for the most part. I loved corporate lawyer and workaholic Reuben's transformation from reluctance, only doing the trip to prove that he can, and wanting to constantly check his phone for emails, to genuinely enjoying himself, falling in love with Alaska, overcoming his fears and reconnecting with his daughter.Toby, the pilot and tour guide assigned to Reuben's trip, doesn't have quite such a nice arc. He starts out pretty even keeled, and even when his life gets turned upside down he mostly keeps his cool and ability to work his charm. It's only when his family and how the accident affects them comes into play that he crumbles.What I didn't like was the conflict (though luckily it was rather short and resolved quickly.) It's strongly connected to Toby's dad, who I disliked. He's not a hateful or malicious character, but his pride and suspiciousness of outsiders was off-putting, especially with how he tries to push these sentiments onto his son.On the flipside I adored the rest of the plot around the protagonist's families. There's Nell, Toby's youngest sister (with a few appearances of his other sister Hannah) and especially Amelia, Reuben's daughter, was a delight. I loved Amelia both as a character (and wasn't that like looking back at parts of myself when I was a teen!) and how her relationship with both Toby and Reuben develops. I really liked how she wasn't reduced to a stereotype, like the little princess or the tough-cool-girl like protagonist's kids are often handled: instead she was a complex character with a lot of quirks, flaws and many different interests.There was a lovely little side plot about Toby connecting with Amelia by teaching her about his Native Alaskan, specifically Athabaskan, heritage, just like his mother used to teach him.Something that stood out to me and that I strongly disliked was how a character saying "I'm not interested in relationships" was immediately met with "I bet you'll change your mind someday." This happened two times, with the characters not wanting relationships being two different ones and the one replying the same in both scenes. In the second instance it's at least followed up with the admittance that nothing is wrong with not wanting relationships, but it still grated.That also made it weird that Toby, who definitely says he's not interesting in a relationship, then obviously ends up in one.... while his previous disinterest is never really mentioned again.The romance plot still works and I mostly liked it, though I wish there had been a bit more explicit conversation around it from time to time.

I really enjoyed the first "Frozen Herats" book and was very looking forward to Toby's story. Although the characters of the first book are mentioned one or two times and even make a short appearance, this book can easily be read as a standalone. In the first book we had a very rich and detailed description of Alaska, its nature and its inhabitants. This takes a much smaller part in the second book. So if you want to get the whole Alaskan experience and be able to truly delve into it and also to better understand the people and what moves them, than you definitley should read the books in order. If you are more interested in the relationship part of the story, you can just go ahead and treat it as a single story!The romance between Reuben and Toby is very slowburning which is fitting for their circumstances and their respective personalities. I really enjoyed accompanying them on their journey from strangers to friends to lovers. Their struggles were realistic and comprehensible.Annabeth Albert always writes great and complex characters and Reuben and Toby were no exception. I also really liked the character of Amelia and her development. I had some problems with Toby's family, especially his dad, and I wasn't really able to connect to them and to feel the love between them. This love was always mentioned, but the words and actions between the characters did not really show it for me.But altogether I really enjoyed this story and couldn't stop reading. And now I'm looking forward to the final installment which will be Quill's story :)

4.5 StarsReally enjoyed this one. Though there's a big age difference between our MCs (~17 years), it was nice seeing that they both had their own struggles and though they helped each other throughout the book, they also needed time on their own, thinking and realizing what they want and need - in life and in one another. You could say (like Toby did) that Reuben was having a "midlife crisis" but if it was or wasn't, I think it was simply everything together enabling him to step out of his regular life and routine and look closely on his previous decisions and if they are still relevant to who he is or wants to be. I really appreciated that.We've met Tobias "Toby" Kooly in the previous installment, like Griffin he too works as a tour guide for people coming to Alaska looking for an adventure or even a simple time off. Toby is easy going, knowledgeable and fun to be around. He loves his job and mostly his clients adore him back. But though he shows a sort of "care-free" attitude he is living a very complicated life. Two sisters he does his best to support financially as well as a sick father who needs constant care. He loves his family. They mean the world to him, but they are also a HUGE constant pressure he barely manages.Reuben Graham is a hot-shot lawyer. His best friend booked this trip to Alaska for them (and his friends' wife) but as said wife was too busy to travel, he was somehow left to go on vocation on his own. It wasn't his idea, he wasn't even involved in the planning but he won't admit "defeat" by cancelling and showing his friends he is unable to take time off.. his guide is too cheerful and nice, also annoyingly good looking.. He can already see how things are NOT going to go as (he) planned...Toby does his best to make Reuben enjoy himself. It's not an easy task but little by little he wins him over. Reuben finds it hard to admit it even to himself but he IS having a good time. It's not what he expected but the beautiful Alaskan landscapes with a rather sweet guide makes it hard to stay grumpy or work remotely (as he originally planned...).Yet everything crashes down when Toby LITERALLY crashes the plane when they stumble upon unexpected rain. They are both injured but Toby is in a far worse state. This is exactly what he DIDN'T need right now. Summer is the best money-making time with all the trips, not working is going to make financing his family almost impossible yet he has to somehow manage, and get well as soon as possible.Though Reuben isn't injured badly he has his own things to deal with, mainly his daughter not wanting to go to summer camp. Wanting to be a better father to his daughter as well as a good friend to Toby (whom he realize he already sees as a friend) he decides to bring Amelia to Alaska, renting a house suitable for them + the Toby who can't stay at his house due to his leg (and hand) injury. Toby doesn't like to be a burden, but he somehow accepts with Reuben asking he stays as his and Amelia's guide - planning fun activities he his daughter can do together.Living together makes two things happen - one expected - Reuben and Toby cross the line between friendship to lovers and the second - unexpected - sharing a home together turns to exactly that - a home. A feeling of belonging. Even a family. Only problem is - the expiration date once summer is over and Reuben (and his daughter) return home - far far away from Alaska and mostly Toby.I'll admit at times I wanted to rush Annabeth a bit. I could see how the friendship and relationship was building but I was impatient with how slowly Toby and Reuben were progressing as a couple. Reuben was all about taking things slow but also MUCH more meaningful. Toby was trying something new to him and finding Reuben and his ways are what he wants and needs. But there were too many obstacles, mostly mental ones. It was all THERE in front of their eyes but Annabeth needed them to TRULY be ready and when the time was right they were.While I'm not a fan of kids in books, Amelia had a very important role in the story. She was another reason for Reuben to re-think his life and his choices. In a way she was even a mirror for him. She also allowed him to grow as a person, as a father. It was beautiful to read. I really enjoyed Toby as well, though I gotta say when he was grumpy - HE WAS GRUMPY and Reuben was a LIVING SAINT dealing with him hehe I think these two were simply MADE for one another. What I loved about Toby & Reuben’s story was that they had real families. Reuben’s daughter was her own character—not just a prop to make Reuben interesting—she had her own story. And through Toby’s dad and sister we got to see low-key prejudice against outsiders that makes sense in Alaska. I also appreciated how Albert showed Toby’s native heritage, how it affects who he is, without it feeling like a cliche.And to the actual relationship at the heart of the story...this was a fun “opposites attract”. There was good build-up as they got to know each other. I love that through their narration we got to see how what they had was different from what they had known in the past. They both had great journeys before they were finally ready for their HEA.

Love these guys! Annabeth once again provides an awesome story with guys I grew very quickly to care sbout. Each with their own individual issues to resolve, Reuben and Toby grow as men, as people. Supporting cast is awesome!Looking forward to the next one!I've loved Annabeth's books since I stumbled into the Rough Terrain series a few years ago. She's a one-click author for me, and one of my favorite 5 or 6.😎😎😎

This is part of a series, but really can be read as a standalone. I liked this book better than the first in the series. I loved Reuben and Amelia. The romantic relationship felt a little unbalanced to me, so I couldn’t feel the intensity of emotion between them. Like with the first book, I felt like the big conflict was lame, so the later part of the book was weakened by that. The book was good enough that I’ll try the next one in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in Annabeth Albert's Frozen Hearts series! I loved Toby and Reuben, and their chemistry together was off the charts (they had the hottest hand job I've ever read!). But I also loved how they had real, serious problems and they took the time to work through them and figure out what they needed for themselves, not just as part of a couple. And the descriptions of Alaska are amazing! It's a great read!

It would take a book length to give this book a decent review. So excuse me if I miss the information you are looking for.This book will really be helpful for anyone interested in all things film; however it is not in a text book form so we do not have to answer questions at the end of each section.I have not got the time or economics for film making. But I do have the time to read this book and appreciate other's skills. We can rematch those classics or experiments and now see the professionalism that went into their creation.You will want to keep up with information on technical changes allowing more creativity. There for you will want the latest version but keep this version for the items that did not make it into the newer version. Just because new technology is available we can appreciate the creators that keep to rational methods.I mostly used this book for technical definitions or to understand the vocabulary used by the film maker so I can better understand what he/she is trying to accomplish. This is why I like to watch the extras o DVD's then watch the film again knowing what to look for.I am disappointed that the pictures and graphs are in black and white. However I am glad that they do show what the words are trying to portray. You may even see a still from your favorite movie.While the book talks about such things as lenses and lighting, I now see what was used to create some of my favorite scenes. Then I wonder how they could have been made differently.You will wonder how you could have missed this book until now.
